Why Didn’t My Photo Detect Any Faces?
If you uploaded a photo and no faces were detected, don’t worry, this can happen for a few common reasons. Here’s how to troubleshoot and decide what to do next.
Common Reasons Faces Aren’t Detected
Faces are too small or blurry
Try zooming in on the original, if you can’t clearly see the face, the system likely can’t either
Faces are turned away or obscured
Side profiles, shadows, hats, and hands over faces can all reduce accuracy
Low contrast or faded images
Older photos, especially faded black-and-whites, sometimes lack enough contrast for detection
Unusual cropping or angles
If the photo is cropped just above the eyes or at an odd tilt, the face may not register
What You Can Try
Scan a higher resolution version, if available
Adjust lighting or contrast before uploading (even a small tweak can help)
Try a different image of the same person — not every photo will work, but another one might
What If the Face Is There but Didn’t Get Picked Up?
If a face is clearly visible to you but not detected:
You can leave the photo in your archive for reference
You might try editing and re-uploading it in the future
We’re always working to improve detection, some photos may succeed on re-upload later
🧠 Tip: Prioritize clear, front-facing images for best results, especially when working with older or scanned photos.
