Assigning People to Faces

Once your photo is uploaded, the system will detect and isolate all visible faces. From there, you can assign a name or general descriptor to each face, creating or updating a person profile.

Where to Assign People

You can assign a person to a face from:

  • The Upload Flow

  • The Photo Viewer

  • The My People page

Creating or Using a Profile

When you click on a face:

  • A form will appear where you can assign a name or general descriptor

  • If you’ve previously created a profile with that name, a dropdown menu will suggest it, saving you time

  • You can edit the person’s details at any time

A teal bar at the top means you’re creating a new profile

A purple bar means you’re editing or assigning to an existing one

Using General Descriptors

If you don’t know the person’s name, click +General Descriptor and describe them in a way that helps you recognize them later:

  • “Unknown woman in blue dress”

  • “Maybe Grandma Smith?”

  • “Man in uniform 1”

You can’t assign both a name and a general descriptor, you’ll choose one or the other.

Why Assignment Matters

  • It helps the system begin identifying patterns and matches across your photos and those uploaded by other users.

  • Named people won’t be paired against each other inside your account, we assume you already know who they are.

  • However, their faces will still be compared to unnamed or described individuals and all people in other accounts.
