Why Are My Pairings Inaccurate or Repetitive?

Sometimes you may notice match suggestions that don’t seem accurate, or you may see the same face appear more than once in your Pairings. That’s totally normal and can usually be resolved with a few simple actions.

Common Reasons This Happens

Faces were assigned incorrectly

If the wrong person was assigned to a face, that error can ripple across match suggestions

Family resemblance

Siblings and cousins often score highly, even when they’re not the same person

Low-quality or partial images

Shadows, faded scans, or side profiles can reduce recognition accuracy

Unconfirmed matches

Until you confirm, decline, or mark a pairing as uncertain, the system keeps showing it as a “possible match”

Why You Might See the Same Face Twice

This usually happens when:

  • The same photo was uploaded by multiple users

  • A face looks highly similar to several people in your account

  • You haven’t yet confirmed or declined the original pairing

What You Can Do

  • Check face assignments — make sure each face is correctly linked to the right person

  • Use Decline or Uncertain — don’t just scroll past! Marking pairings improves your results

  • Add more photos — more examples of each person improve accuracy and reduce noise over time

🧠 Think of each action you take as “teaching” the system — the more you interact, the smarter it gets.
