Face Mismatch Alerts
Sometimes two faces score highly on resemblance but aren’t actually the same person. That’s where Face Mismatch Alerts come in.
This feature appears on the Pairings page to flag pairings that, while visually similar, include hidden data inconsistencies, such as a mismatch in biological sex, that suggest these may not be the same individual.
Why It Matters
Facial recognition is powerful, but relatives can look strikingly similar, especially siblings or parent/child pairs. A resemblance score above 85% can still result in a false match if other clues don’t line up.
By alerting you to potential mismatches, we help avoid combining the wrong people under a single profile, preserving the integrity of your research.
When You’ll See an Alert
An alert appears only on the Pairings page when:
The system detects a high resemblance score
But the underlying data (like assigned sex) strongly suggests they are different people
⚠️ These alerts are rare and only appear when the system has a high level of confidence that something is off
What to Do
When you see an alert:
Review the faces carefully
Compare context, photo style, clothing, resemblance, and name clues
If you’re unsure, use the Uncertain button instead of matching
💡 Always consider possible family relationships, high resemblance doesn’t always mean it’s the same person.
Example
Two faces may look similar and score highly, but if one is biologically male and the other female, and no other evidence supports a match, the system will flag it to help you avoid merging siblings or distant relatives incorrectly.
